Beaches and Coves

Cornwall has some of the finest beaches and is the perfect place to relax and unwind, far from the madding crowd.

South Coast Beaches

Looe

20 minutes

The popular family beach at Looe is a short drive away. A lovely all rounder, Looe is great for having an explore in all the little shops. I recommend Roly’s Fudge Pantry for some yummy treats followed by Fish and Chips on the sandy beach (watch out for those seagulls!). Why not make a day of it and get the train from Liskeard Station (10 minute drive), its only a short train ride but the littles will love it and the scenery is beautiful!

Dogs are not allowed on the beach at Looe but just along the coast path from Looe lies the wide and expansive sand and shingle beach at Downderry which is open to dog walkers all year round. Further along the coastal path to the east, you will find Whitsand Bay with its sandy beach stretching for 3 miles, which is popular with families but be prepared for a steep climb down to the beach.

Polperro

30 minutes

To the west of Looe along the coastal path, you will find the quaint old fishing village of Polperro with its small sandy beach and interesting 'smugglers' caves. It’s a lovely place to explore and enjoy with something for all ages. Be sure to bring change along with you for the car park which is located at the top of the village.

Talland Bay

25 minutes

Further round the coast from Polperro, lie the sheltered shingle beach of Talland Bay complete with rock pools to explore and rocks to climb, perfect for keeping the children entertained and walking the dog. Grab a latte from the lovely cafe on the beach, Talland Bay Beach Cafe, (although please check opening times to avoid disappointment) and loose yourself amongst the pink pebbles and babbling streams leading to the sea.

North Coast Beaches

The north coast beaches are also within easy reach of Lower Trengale and are popular with families and surfers.

Daymer Bay

45 minutes

Definitely a family favourite, this sheltered beach is the perfect safe haven for younger families. The positioning of these beach means that the surf is generally very small but we have spent hours here with the littles (and as littles ourselves) playing on bodyboards, building sandcastles and eating ice creams. There is a cafe/shop in the car park as well as public toilets (remember to bring change for them) It’s also really great out of season for sandy walks on the beach and skimming stones, it’s also dog friendly!

Polzeath

45 Minutes

Just around the coast from Daymer Bay is Polzeath. This, less sheltered, beach has great surf for all you surfing enthusiasts and offers surf hire, beach shops, cafe’s and restaurants. It also provides a pretty great setting for some winter walks when it is quieter.

Mawgan Porth

40 minutes

This beach is just to the east of Newquay and is a gorgeous sandy beach. It’s really not far from us here at Lower Trengale Farm and is well worth a visit. There are some lovely restaurants on the beach for you to enjoy and some great places to grab a coffee (or an ice cream) too!
