Beaches to Explore

Part one

There is so much to do when you come to visit Cornwall, we thought it might be useful to tell you about some of our favourite places. Part one of Beaches to explore is Talland Bay…

Talland Bay is a stunning location on the south coast of Cornwall, England. The small bay is renowned for its picturesque views of the sea, its rugged coastline and its unspoilt nature. The bay is one of many stunning locales in Cornwall, but it stands out for its incredible beauty. The sea is a luminous turquoise colour, the rocks are ancient and the sand is golden. The bay is a great spot for swimming, sunbathing or simply admiring the views. If you have a SUP board, it’s a great place to go, it is quite a sheltered bay and so the water is often very calm. We wouldn’t really recommend it for surfing but it’s great for the little ones to have a paddle!

Food wise, in the down season you’ll need to bring a picnic but between April and October the Talland Bay Beach Cafe is open providing a delicious offering of Sandwiches, Panini’s, cakes and Ice Cream! We love getting a coffee from the Cafe, taking a walk on the beach with the children and then heading back for ice creams! They are also licenced to sell alcohol should you fancy a tipple in the Cornish Sun.

The unique pink stones found at Talland Bay are known as ‘Devon Rubble’. This type of sandstone was formed millions of years ago when sediment was compressed and then buried beneath the sea. The sediment was then exposed to the air when the sea receded and the pressure caused the sandstone to turn pink. The Devon Rubble stones can be seen all along the Cornish coast, but they are particularly notable at Talland Bay due to the large concentration of them. The stones are a unique feature and a popular spot for visitors to take photographs. The Devon Rubble stones also have a unique texture and are believed to be beneficial for health and well-being. The stones are said to improve circulation and to help release tension in the body. They are also believed to help with relaxation and to reduce stress. They also make wonderful stone towers when stacked up!
