North coast of Cornwall
Cornwall has some of the finest beaches and is the perfect place to relax and unwind, far from the madding crowd.
The holiday cottages at Lower Trengale are well placed for exploring the many beaches along the south east coast. The popular family beach at Looe is a short drive away. Dogs are not allowed on the beach at Looe but just along the coast path from Looe lies the wide and expansive sand and shingle beach at Downderry which is open to dog walkers all year round. Further along the coastal path to the east, you will find Whitsand Bay with its sandy beach stretching for 3 miles, which is popular with families but be prepared for a steep climb down to the beach.
To the west of Looe along the coastal path, you will find the fishing village of Polperro with its small sandy beach and interesting 'smugglers' caves. Further round the coast from Polperro, lie the sheltered shingle beaches of Talland Bay and Lansallos with rock pools to explore and rocks to climb, perfect for keeping the children entertained and walking the dog. Further on again lies Lantic Bay - a hidden treasure with a sheltered sandy beach but there is a climb down to the beach which makes it unsuitable for wheel chairs.
The north coast beaches are also within easy reach of Lower Trengale and are popular with families and surfers. The large sandy beach at Bedruthan Steps offers the most spectacular scenery but, as its name suggests, be prepared for some very steep steps. The sandy beach at Polzeath is excellent for surfing and the seaside resort at Bude has an excellent beach with free tidal swimming pool.
